Picking a provider shouldn’t feel like a gamble. But with medspas on every corner and endless social posts promising results, it often does. There’s nothing worse than investing time, money, and trust, only to walk away feeling uncertain.
That’s why we’re sharing insider knowledge to help you feel confident choosing the right pro for you. A simple criteria to evaluate providers: the 4 T’s – Treatment, Training, Time, and Talent.
Step one is getting clear on the treatments that make sense for your beauty goals. Not every medspa has every tool or technology, and not every provider is trained in all options. If you go in blind, you risk limiting yourself to whatever happens to be on their menu.

Providers can have various training backgrounds, and it’s helpful to know the difference.
Plastic surgeons spend years studying anatomy, with deep expertise in facial muscles, bone structures, and surgical techniques. Think treatments involving structure or muscle.
Dermatologists are skin experts. They’re highly trained in treating texture, pigment, and conditions. Think treatments involving lasers or resurfacing.
Nurse injectors and laser technicians often gain skills through shorter certification courses or brand-sponsored workshops.
Insider insight:
Every medspa must have a Medical Director who sets the clinic’s protocols and signs off on assessments. When that director is a board-certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist, it’s not just a title, it’s a signal of standards. These medical aesthetics specialists are usually the most choosy about where they take on that role, because their reputation is tied to that clinic.
Ask the front desk what resources they keep on hand if complications arise. Having the right materials, like hyaluronidase for filler, is a sign of strong safety standards.
Ask what training your provider has completed for the treatment you’re considering.
Experience isn’t just about years in practice, it’s about repetition. A provider who has treated hundreds (or even thousands) of patients, has seen a wide range of skin types, ages, and goals, and knows how to adjust accordingly.
Insider insight:
Check a provider's bio. Someone with years of experience will usually highlight it proudly.
Ask how long they’ve been performing the specific procedure you’re interested in. Someone might be a master at lips but still new to under-eye filler.
Don’t be afraid to ask the receptionist, “who here does the most of this treatment?”
Here’s the part no certificate can prove. Some providers simply have an eye for aesthetics. They understand proportions, symmetry, and restraint. That kind of artistry shows up in their portfolio. Take a look – do all their patients start to look the same, or do they look like enhanced versions of themselves?
Insider insight:
High rebook rates are a strong sign of trust and skill. Providers who have clients returning again and again are usually delivering results people are happy with.
Check to see if a provider is also an instructor. Training others signals that they’re recognized as a leader in their craft.
Ask their philosophy. A great provider can explain their approach and their answer tells you as much as their portfolio does.
At the end of the day, there’s no one “perfect” provider. The key is knowing which of the 4 T’s matters most to your goals right now, and choosing a provider who delivers on that. Some people will prioritize the highest level of training, even if it comes at a cost. Others may value time, talent, or philosophy more. The 4 T’s give you a framework and GlowGuide helps you figure out which ones matter most for your goals, so you can move forward with confidence.
